Photography is creating images that are uniquely photographic and can't be produced through any other art form. I originally developed my expertise with materials and processes using a view camera. My film and filter combinations produced exceptional quality images on transparency film. Having developed expertise in digital image capture and processing, I continue to match the purity I once achieved with film.
I specialize in Architectural Photography and tailor my work to each client's unique vision and purpose. Because of my education and extensive background as an advertising photographer, I bring a keen awareness of marketing, merchandising and storytelling to my work. I've established a solid reputation with my clients for delivering the images they seek with the mark of an artist.
Along with Architectural Photography, Documentary Photography is my special love. I believe it is a powerful and necessary tool for social justice and a catalyst for change. Magnum photographers-masters of this genre-are the artists I study daily and whose work sets a standard of excellence I strive for in every project.
I grew up in a blue-collar family and worked in the grocery business, starting as a bagger, then stock boy, and eventually becoming part of the management team. These jobs enabled me to pay my way through photography school and secure a job in a commercial photo lab/ studio after college. From the lab I was promoted to a catalog photographer. With a team of established photographers, I worked hard to create multiple portfolios and became the lead photographer at that studio. Grinding and the urge to achieve drove me to my dream.
I was also teaching Photographic Lighting, Photo Journalism and Commercial Photography at two different colleges. In 1999, I started my own architectural photography business and served clients from the Midwest, traveling coast to coast to photograph their projects. In 2009, I bought a building and created a photography studio/art gallery. I continue to work out of that space and run Gallery 2622. Showcasing other artists work is how I give back to the field I love.
